There’s nothing like a good cup of hot chocolate to ward off the cold during the winter months. To give your next warm drink a more homey feel give this recipe a try.

Recipe makes 4 servings

1/3 cup sweetened cocoa powder

¾ cup white sugar

1 pinch salt

1/3 cup boiling water

3 ½ cups milk

¾ teaspoons vanilla extract

½ cup half-and-half cream

Whipped cream

Cocoa powder

In a saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, the sugar, and the salt. Blend in 1/3 cup of boiling water. Stir the mixture while bringing it to an easy boil. Continue simmering and stirring for 2minutes. Be careful not to scorch!! Stir in milk and continue heating, not boiling, until very hot. When fully heated, remove mixture from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour half-and-half cream in equal amounts into the four mugs. Pour mixture in equal amounts into the mugs. To top it off, add a few marshmallows, cover in whipped cream, and sprinkle with cocoa powder.
