Hoards of shoppers flock to stores as retailers slash prices and offer once-off bargains.

But what exactly is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an American tradition in which retailers offer consumers significant discounts and deals on the day after Thanksgiving Day in the US.

It is used to mark the start of the Christmas shopping season and has become one of the biggest and busiest retail days of the year.

The tradition has made it's way to Mzantsi over the past few years, and many local retailers don't want to miss out on the action as part of a business strategy to market themselves and boost their subscriber base.

Many retailers are keeping their exact savings offers under wraps, encouraging consumers to sign up to newsletters and other platforms for an exclusive scoop.

Several stores will also open early on Friday, while some malls will offer parking discounts to make provisions for the increased foot traffic (read: stampedes) and long queues that have come to be expected.
