Global specialty ice-cream giant Baskin-Robbins opened their doors in Cape Town, South Africa on Friday at 11am.

The popular ice-cream chain launched their first local store at Canal Walk shopping centre, despite heavy rains this morning.

Besides the down-pouring, they've brought with them 31 delicious flavours - which have had families and ice-cream enthusiast flocking to queue and get a taste.

They will introduce new flavours and desserts as time goes on, according to Baskin-Robbins SA COO, Sean Dearham.

Dearham says the brand is committed to premium quality of ice cream and innovation with flavours.

The next store will be open on the December 15 at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre and maybe another store before Christmas time, who knows.

While the plan is to branch out across Mzantsi, there will be nine stores in the Western Cape before the chain moves over to Gauteng mid-2017.
