Officials are still investigating the cause of the shack fire which has left more than 140 people destitute in Dunoon at the weekend.

Forty-four wood and iron structures were gutted a blaze in the Siyahlala informal settlement, reports EWN's Kevin Brandt.

It's still unclear how that specific fire in Dunoon started.

About 145 people have been left homeless and it reportedly took four fire engines over three hours to contain the blaze in the early hours of Saturday morning.

No one has been injured but many have lost their homes, valuable belongings and important documentation.
