Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, says South Africa will take at least three years to recover from the drought that has hit the country hard.

Mokonyane updated MEC's from all 9 provinces about the national department's water and sanitation delivery performance plans.

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies spoke to Jason Mingo from the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning for the Western Cape about affordable ways to save water.

Most solutions that are currently on the market, like water tanks and grey water systems are not affordable to average households.

He says the costs might be reduced when the demand grows just like with solar systems which started out being expensive.

I suppose you could compare it to solar a few years ago where it was out of reach for majority of people but as the demand for the product increased, it assisted in reducing some of that cost.
