CAPE TOWN - Gauteng travellers are being encouraged to swop their baggage allowance for water.

The Siemens AirDrop initiative will enable travellers to participate by having their luggage weighed at the AirDrop stand.

Any travellers whose luggage is five (or more) kilograms under the weight limit will be able to “exchange” their unused kilos for litres of water.

The water will be delivered to Cape Town on their behalf.

Keshin Govender, head of communications of Siemens, says 5,000 litres of drinking water will reach Cape Town in a matter of hours.

“The idea is that we’re encouraging a pay-it-forward sentiment with all travellers coming to Cape Town in December.”
