The City Of Cape Town attended 61 vegetation fires in a 12 hour period on Thursday.

The City's Fire & Rescue Services' Theo Layne says the largest fire was on the N2 Highway.

He explains that the vegetation fires have been spurred by the dry, hot and windy weather conditions, and are likely to continue.

The Volunteer Wildfire Services has warned residents that there is still a high risk of wild fires.
