Fire crews were deployed to douse four separate blazes on the mountain slopes earlier on Tuesday and two helicopters have been deployed to water-bomb the area.

A man, believed to be in his forties, was arrested.

He was found in possession of fuel and other fire-making implements. He was clearly identified by people as having been present.

He made a great deal of noise. he was shouting and clearly very agitated and appeared to be in a state of distress.

The fire that he may or may not have started has been brought under control.

Smith says there were four separate ignition points which shows the intent of someone to ensure a fire was started.

That does not happen naturally at four points simultaneously.

Smith says the accused made no effort to conceal himself or distance himself from the fire.

He was shouting and drawing attention to himself.
