Traffic officers who use bus and taxi lanes in order to avoid congestion on their way to work WILL face the consequences.

That's from the Western Cape's traffic chief who says he's cracking down on traffic cops taking advantage of their positions.

I've sent out a directive to my officers - any officer who is guilty of driving in the yellow line or in the taxi or bus lane, we will charge those officers.

I've received a lot of complaints from the public that traffic officers are guilty of driving in those lanes to get to work.

Africa says it is clear when the bus and taxi lanes may be used, and it's not as a fast track for officers to get to work.

The instruction is very clear, if it not in the course of duty, they they are not allowed to drive in that yellow line to get to work...we will not tolerate it.
