In the same way that Sesame Street teaches kids about life and its little lessons through the use of puppets and songs, Avenue Q has a few lessons for adults.

The show is at Pieter Toerien's Montecasino Theatre and Studio and will run for at least the next six weeks.

Speaking to Ray White on The Midday Report, Executive Producer Jaco van Rensburg said Avenue Q is all about community.

The title refers to a street in New York City where average middle-class people live and the musical is centred around our central character Princeton who happens to be a puppet.

Played by Ryne Flin and Ashleigh Harvey who plays the cake monster and a little love story unfold between them.

He adds that the musical is centred around that community and how they get along.
