A biking group in Cape Town is investigating after a rider was injured by a suspected wire trap on the Glen trail between Camps Bay Drive and Kloof Road.

The apparent trail sabotage was reported over the weekend and other riders have been warned to be on alert.

Robert Vogel‚ founder of Table Mountain Bikers‚ says the trail was opened to cyclists in 2016 and is a legal trail.

Vogel says the trap was clearly premeditated and intended to cause harm.

He suspects that the person behind the set-up is someone who objects to cyclists using the Glen trail path.

According to Vogel, this is not the first time that barriers have been placed on the trail.

He claims that cyclists face a great deal of resistance from other users of the trail.

He [the rider] saw it at last minute, couldn't avoid it, it hit him across the throat and he was yanked off his bicycle.

The area is generally used by residents who live close by. It leaves me to believe that it is a disgruntled local who is not prepared to share the trail.

We think that it's somebody who has got a beef with cyclists.
