Fuel will continue to get more expensive due to the weak rand, says the Automobile Association (AA).

Globally, fuel prices have remained almost unchanged on average in August.

However, the rand tanked, pushing up the price of fuel.

The AA expects petrol to increase by between 23 and 25 cents a litre, pushing the it above R16 a litre for the first time ever.

It expects a diesel to be about 28 cents per litre more expensive.

It does not expect a return to “cheap” fuel.
