Industry leaders in performance tracking, Garmin leads the pack in wrist wearables in South Africa and, continues to expand its technology to keep cyclists connected.
The most state-of-the-art thing that you could get on your bicycle was a cyclometer... that was everyone's introduction to how cool it could be to keep track of what it was you're doing.
Ryan O’Connor – Kfm 94.5 radio presenter
Focused on the safety of cyclists, Garmin acquired the assets of iKubu (Pty) Ltd's Backtracker, a bike radar that enables the rider to pick up cars within 140 metres behind them, displaying the speed of the car as well as the level of threat it imposes.
There were a bunch of very enthusiastic engineers in Stellenbosch that started designing a radar for the bike and, Garmin picked up on it and realised the potential.
Kevin Malan – Business Development Manager
"Well done Garmin on picking up on what these guys have done locally," says O'Connor.
