The Simon’s Town Historical Society is offering a R5 000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of the bronze replica of the iconic Great Dane Just Nuisance.

Just Nuisance is believed to have been born in 1937 and lived in Simon's Town in the Cape with his owner Benjamin Chaney.

He roamed around the neighbourhood following sailors to work and back and became a beloved part of the community.

He was the only dog ever to be officially enlisted in the Royal Navy.

A statue was erected in Jubilee Square in Simon's Town to commemorate his life.

Pippa Hudson talks to Eric Mawhinney, chair of the Simonstown Historical Society about the theft of part of the statue. The cap and collar were prised off the rock that the Just Nuisance statute is mounted on in April this year.

The society decided, in light of authorities not doing anything, to offer a reward which could lead to the recovery of the cap and collar and prosecution.

The priority is the return of the stolen items.

Though the dog never liked wearing the cap or the collar which is why it was placed separately on the rock.
