Historian and maritime archaeologist Bruno Werz has found evidence that has led him to believe that the 1647 shipwreck of the Haarlem, which changed South African history is off the coast at Blouberg.

Dr Bruno Werz talks to Kieno Kamies about plans to excavate the shipwrecked 1647 Haarlem.

He says the ship, owned by the Dutch East India Company ran aground off Table Bay in 1647, leaving its crew stranded. They set up a makeshift camp that led to the establishment of a refreshment station for passing ships.
