Ryan O'Connor – Kfm 94.5 radio presenter

I was out on Sunday riding around South Peninsula a little bit and, I must say: it was bizarre. It was like cyclists have taken over the road from Seapoint through to the top of Chapman's Peak... I actually felt sorry for the motorists.

Dave Bellairs – Director at Cape Town Cycle Tour

This year, Jason and Ryan will be riding on a tandem for a good cause with Cycle of Life along with Simone Godfrey and Achmat 'Shark boy' Hassiem who will be riding for Ride 4 Skin Cancer at the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Ryan reflects on the iconic event and talks about the amount of money the race has generated for the city of Cape Town over the years.

The last estimate we had which was done probably four or five years ago was half a billion rand... So, the challenge we have as an event is, spending money on doing economic impact assessments is counter-productive because that's money that could be going to charity.

Dave Bellairs – Director at Cape Town Cycle Tour

We probably will look, next year to partnering with one of the universities to see if we can come up with some post grad students and we'll relook at it with the provincial government and the city.

Dave Bellairs – Director at Cape Town Cycle Tour

It's a big economic driver. It sustains a number of industries... I know, certainly the cycling fraternity obviously enjoy the fact that this event is coming around.

Dave Bellairs – Director at Cape Town Cycle Tour

It is a big one for the cycle deals and the fact that we have 6000 first-timers riding this year, means that we've got new people coming into the sport... it's hotel accommodation, it's airplanes, it's restaurants, it's bars, it's airbnbs and the list goes on and on.
