It's World Water Day and the Cape has 103 days of usable water left.

What have we learned?

Dr Kevin Winter of the Environmental and Geographical Science Future Water Institute, says there are three main take-outs from the drought.

1. Behavioural change as consumers use less water

Water consumers have shown a reduction in their use of water, there is greater awareness. We have reduced our demand for water by 32%. This time last year we using roughly 1.1 billion litres per day and we are now down to 750 million litres per day.

2. Water resource management adapting to changes.
