The City of Cape Town received a total of 1 424 reports of water wastage in the City since the implementation of Level 3 water restrictions on November 1.

Once again the City is urging residents not to waste water .

Cllr Ernest Sonnenberg, Mayco member for Utility Services, urged residents to report people, neighbours and businesses who waste water.

He says even if water wastage is on the City's owned properties, those responsible should be held liable.

The City says they saw an alarming spike in water consumption last week with an average of 905 million litres being used per day. This is significantly above the municipality’s target of 800 million litres per day.

To report water wastage you can call 0860 103 089 or email: water.restrictions@capetown.gov .za

He encouraged people to send emails rather than calling to allow the call centre consultants to deal with emergencies for when people report burst water pipes.

Sonnenberg says the Mayor has increased call centre staff to be able to handle the increasing call volumes.
