A strong cold front is expected over the Western Cape and Namakwa District of the Northern Cape toward the end of this week.

The weather service is reporting that strong to gale force, gusty north-westerly winds at a speed of 50-70 km/h are expected over the Western Cape and Namakwa District interior on Thursday and Friday.

Much needed heavy rain, leading to flooding, is also expected over the City of Cape Town, Cape Winelands, western parts of the Overberg and West Coast District on Thursday and extending into Friday.

This is good news for Cape Town as the city continues to experience water shortages due to drought.

The province's biggest dam, Theewaterskloof is currently at 20.8% compared to February where it was at 11.5% and authorities were forced to drill into the dam to extract the last 10% of its water.
