On Friday 3 September Concerts 4X2 will give another of their "anniversary" concerts in which they will play music by Robert Schumann and Frèdèric Chopin. These two famous men were born in 1810, within 3 months and 300 miles of each other, at a time when the pianoforte was overtaking the role of the harpsichord, both in chamber and solo music. In this programme the "pièce de resistance" is Schumann's wonderful piano-quartet....and you can also hear the two movements he contributed to the "F.A.E." violin sonata. Some Preludes for piano by Chopin, and the exquisite slow movement from his cello sonata complement the Schumann works. Emile de Roubaix (viola) joins Shirley Gie (piano), Lucia Di Blasio-Scott (violin) and Sarah Acres (cello) for this concert which is being given in the Dean's old Office (S 4) of the SA College of Music's Strubenholme building (adjacent to the Baxter Complex). Tickets cost R80 and there is safe, secure parking in the surroundings of the SA College of Music

A Capella music has, for an exceptionally long period, suffered under the impression that it was a music genre lacking sex appeal, audience-accessibility and commercial viability, and perhaps a touch lame. Needless to say, perceptions haven't hindered D-seven, a bold new ensemble that has set the Cape Town music performance scene alight with tight sets, fitted jeans, slick moves and smooth music. And if first impressions are anything to go by, many a fan of high-quality live music will be grovelling to the musical gods in thanks for a long while to come. And grovel you just might. The men of D-seven certainly are a sight to match their sound, which is itself winning wide acclaim. The group is moving from strength to strength, having performed to packed houses on some of the countries premier stages, as well as a number of local television stations. This is a Singles Dance Venue for the mature. Excellent dance floor. Great variety of music to dance to! We are open every Wednesday evening. Take your own snacks and refreshments.
