DIE VLOEK VAN DIE STRANDJUTWOLF
31 January 2006 - 11 February 2006

Radio Kalahari Orkes (RKO), in less than a year ‘op stoom’ with their hit CD, Stoom Radio, have attracted considerable attention with their own take on indigenous music, informed from sources as eclectic as Goema, 30s blue-collar Boeremusiek, Cajun, Bluegrass and Rock. Packed and spellbound audiences at Oppikoppi, the Klein Karoo, Aardklop and Volksblad festivals created a ‘must catch this act’ word of mouth around the country. Inspired by this enthusiasm, RKO now presents their first full scale Afrikaans musical, DIE VLOEK VAN DIE STRANDJUTWOLF. It premièred with great success at the Aardklop Festival, Potchefstroom in 2005 and opens at the Baxter Theatre for a short season from 31 January to 11 February 2006. Led by actor/singers Ian Roberts, Norman Anstey, well-known for their ‘Castrol’ ads and Jody Abrahams (Kat and the Kings) they are accompanied by a group of renowned musicians on violin, pedal-steel guitar, mandolin, drums and two endearing "krummelpoppies" provide the background vocals its music that starts in the feet, runs through the heart and comes to rest in the head. It is directed by Janice Honeyman, written by Harry Kalmer and produced by Dan Roberts and Coenie Middel. Music by Rian Malan, Dan Roberts. It is produced by Lloyd Ross. It is a celebration of an indigenous language and life here on the Southern Tip. Don’t miss this unique musical – book now !
