GREEK MYTHOLOGY AND COSMOLOGY COURSE
16 March 2006

On Thursday the 16th of March popular speaker, Jacques Theron, will be holding an evening course on Greek Mythology and Cosmology at the Christian Community Centre in Plumstead. Despite the fact that the ancient Greek gods and goddesses are no longer worshipped on a large scale, the archetypes they represent still live within our collective unconscious – in popular stories, movies and the roles we project onto public figures. Marilyn Monroe, for example, is an expression of Aphrodite - the goddess of love, sex and beauty. Our psychological patterns often reflect stories describing psychological dilemmas and processes of growth. In this talk, we will explore Greek Cosmology – that is, the story of Creation and how it tells a universal story of the evolution of human consciousness. The Primal gods – such as Gaia, Uranus and Eros – represent the basic elements in the creation of the world. Next come the Titans – such as Atlas, Prometheus, Helios and Nemesis – who symbolize cosmic order and Earth’s relationship with the solar system. Finally, the Olympians – like Zeus, Aphrodite, Apollo and Athena - are the gods we most commonly associate with Greek mythology. They represent individuation and development of the personality. Via some key stories, we will gain insight into the workings of our own psyches. Included will be a visualization connecting you with a guiding archetype and an introduction to the Hellenismos Cosmology Deck of 90 cards developed by Jacques Theron.

Christian Community Centre, 39 Timour Hall Rd, Plumstead

MARK SAMPSON’S "MISSING LINKS"
11 March 2006 - 18 March 2006

Stand-up comedian Mark Sampson’s revolutionary comedy "Missing Links" has been a massive success nationwide – it sold out in Cape Town, was a huge hit at the 2005 Grahamstown Festival, and played to packed houses and great critical acclaim at the Liberty Life Theatre on the Square in Sandton throughout February. Inspired by a visit to the Sterkfontein caves, Sampson contemplates a South African future for his kids by looking back at the very origins of the human family - all the way from the great apes to George Bush. He takes us on a rollercoaster taxi-ride through 3 billion years of evolution: from microbes to man, via Mrs Ples, homo erectus and a lot of monkeying about. A laugh-a-minute hour with one man and a microphone that will make you see our ancestors – and our present - in a whole new light…

7TH SON GIG
15 March 2006 - 22 March 2006

For a skanking combination of beer and reggae beats, you must not miss Cape Town roots rockers, 7th Son, at Paulaner Bräuhaus. They’re live and kicking every Wednesday in March between 8 and 10pm and admission is free. This band has been described as “the pride and joy of Cape Town’s reggae/ska/dub music scene” but whether you’re a reggae fundi or a dub virgin – the rhythm is gonna getcha. While the band plays on, Paulaner is offering a large glass of its own, brewed-on-the-premises, unmissable beer for the price of a small one. Paulaner is a genuine German microbrewery (with a genuine German master-brewer) at the heart of the Waterfront’s cosmopolitan vibe. Believed to be the only microbrewery in the world below sea level, it’s certainly the only one in a working harbour. It makes Bavarian Weissbier, smooth Paulaner Lager and Münch’ner Dunkel, the dark beer for which Munich is renowned. There’s a water-side beer garden to sit in – until the band gets you on your feet – and plenty of excellent Bavarian fare to give you the energy to keep dancing. So …get on down. Every Wednesday March 8,15,22, 29 Paulaner Brauhaus - V&A Waterfront, Clocktower 8 – 10pm Free admission.

ROLLING HEADS
10 March 2006 - 01 April 2006

Award-winning writer, Andrew Whaley's greatly anticipated play “Rolling Heads” will run at the Old Zoo on the Rhodes Memorial Estate from the 10th of March until the 1st of April. Set against the background of violent evictions and slum clearance during the winter of 2005, this dramatic story derives its power and humour from the chaos that forces two desperadoes to escape underground to freedom in South Africa. Along the way they have to deal with home and the heart, pitfalls, presidents and municipal accidents. It is a dramatic and hilarious journey that guarantees a meeting with destiny! Heartfelt and funny, Rolling Heads brings together the superb comic gifts of Adam Neill as director, with actors Dylan Wilson-Max and Tembinkosi Njokweni, and Nicholas Ellenbogen as production designer. (Wednesday to Saturday). Pensioners & students (with valid cards) R40 Previews 8th and 9th March - two for the price of one (show only)
