BENITO VERGOTINE

What's your most embarrassing moment?
Embarrassing moments are part and parcel of being on radio. Each time I make a mistake on air or fluff my words or mention something ridiculous I search for a big hole to bury my head in. Alas to no avail. There's only the next link to look forward to.
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
"Don't be fooled by the party animals, they work harder than most." I suppose one can also say, 'never judge a book by its cover'.

What's your secret indulgence?
Cooking! I love it. I am always up for a braai!

Who has influenced you most?
My father has been the biggest influence. His work ethic was just so amazing. I try to emulate, but my word, it takes some doing.
What's a typical Sunday morning like for you?
Sunday mornings are one of two things. Either a late lie in, or if I did not work the previous night, it's an early rise and out for breakfast and stroll on the beach. In this beautiful city, it is a must. Well that was then…now you can catch me on the Weekend Brunch 10-2pm playing all your Old SKool Classic hits. I love the hits that have all in some way contributed to the modern day pop sound! So no lie in anymore but what the heck…so much more fun playing timeless hits. Make a date with me this Sunday!
Bio
Benito Vergotine is simply too nice to be a lawyer. This is probably why he changed tack midway through his law degree at UCT to study the Arts. After a post-graduate diploma in Journalism at Rhodes University, Benito worked for a small period as an education consultant before his radio career began with a stint at community station, C-Flat. He says this sealed his passion for the media and after two years he sent a demo tape to 94.5 Kfm. That was more than a decade ago. He's been at the station ever since, making his way from the "graveyard" shift through to his current 9 to 12 noon slot. Although born in Port Elizabeth, Benito has called Cape Town home since he was a child. He now lives in Observatory and says it has “a bohemian and cosmopolitan appeal.” Benito loves keeping in touch with what's happening in the city and the world and when time permits, writes freelance articles ranging from business to social issues. He's also in demand as an MC and spends most Saturday mornings on the King David Golf Course playing in club competitions and trying to improve his handicap, which hovers between 16 and 19. He describes himself as bubbly and warm, compassionate and energetic, but also a little moody at times. Benito is passionate about people, music, sport, cooking and...Cape Town!
