Mark Pilgrim
|
What's
your most embarrassing moment?
Standing in front of 10000 people at a “Michael Learns to Rock” concert. As I was introducing the support act… I forgot her name! |
What's the best piece
of advice you've received?
I have a tattoo on my bicep which is a mathematical fraction in Japanese, which simply translated means “fun over poo”. In any situation there has to be more good than bad. If it tilts towards the negative…stop doing it! |
What's your secret
indulgence?
I love a good nibble on slab of dark nutty chocolate! |
Who has influenced you
most?
Not so much a “who”, but a “what”. At the age of 18 I was diagnosed with testicular cancer which spread to my lungs and kidneys. It radically altered my appreciation for the small things in life. Consequently I am a very positive person and love putting a smile on someone’s face. |
What's a typical Sunday morning
like for you?
I host the “Long Lost Classic Show” on Kfm’s sister station, 94.7 Highveld Stereo every Sunday 10-2pm, so a Sunday morning is like the middle of the week for me! |
Bio
Mark Pilgrim is one of the most recognizable radio and television personalities in South Africa. His first love has always been radio, and for the past 12 years listeners have enjoyed his warm (and somewhat wry) sense of humour.
After obtaining his B.Com (Industrial Psychology) and working in market research for 10 years, he decided to follow his heart and joined 5FM back in 1995. After 8 years they parted ways and he now freelances for 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Kfm, hosting Take40sa (Johannesburg and Cape Town’s only independent chart show) on Saturdays and a classic show on 94.7 Highveld Stereo on Sundays. He also regularly hosts the weekday afternoon drive show.
He is as comfortable in front of the camera as he is behind the microphone, with a string of TV shows to his credit, including: Big Brother, Retail Therapy and Sex Etc on MNET; New Moves on e-TV; as well as Face2face on SABC2.
In addition, he is a regular DJ at nightclubs around the country and for many years co-owned Nitefever, one of Johannesburg’s longest running nightclubs. As a voice artist, Mark also spends a lot of his working day in post production studios, narrating radio and TV commercials as well as the television show Car Torque on SABC3. Mark is a well polished MC, having hosted numerous corporate gala evenings over the years. He is also a motivational speaker, sharing his story on testicular cancer, how he overcame it and how it pushed him to follow his dreams. |
