Situated at the Constantia Waldorf School, tucked away in the Kindergarten building is the only permanent Puppet Theatre in South Africa. The Rainbow Puppet Theatre has been performing to the public every Saturday morning at 10am and 11.15 am for 17 years. The artistically painted theatre has a permanent team of five puppeteers complimented with full stage lighting, beautiful glove, rod and shadow puppets and even live music. They can seat up to 60 guests! Although the shows are widely regarded as entertainment for children, adults who come into contact with it soon fall under its enchanted spell. Aside from a few other stories, our Rainbow Puppet Theatre usually performs well-known Grimm's Fairy Tales such as 'Snow White and Rose Red', 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Hansel and Gretel'. We have about 16 different stories altogether which rotates on a monthly basis. The show for the Month of March (leading up to the Easter Holiday) is The Brave Little Easter Rabbit. The Duration of the show is approx 35min. Parking is ample and free and we also have tea, coffee, juices and cake on sale.

Xhosa street slang and hip hop come to the Baxter Concert Hall for one night only on Saturday, 6 March, at 6pm, when 11 emcees will rock the stage in Hip Hop Kaslam. This musical celebration of home-brewed hip hop from ekasi (the township) features a jam-packed programme led by local legends of this genre with an exciting crew of emcees and singers. It pays tribute to music and artists from ekasi about life in the township. Archie Sopazi (aka Dat), who spearheads the line-up and doubles up as the director of Hip Hop Kaslam, is widely regarded as the founder of this style of rapping. On 6 March 2010 Equal Education will be hosting a 24 hour ‘Read-In’ at The Bookery, 20 Roeland Street, Cape Town. Members of the public are invited to go there anytime between 10h00 am on the 6th of March 2010 and 10h00 on the 7th of March 2010 and read and relax! Informative discussion, live storytelling and readings from adventure to horror books will see everyone in to the early hours of Sunday morning. Equal Education is a movement of learners, parents, teachers and community members working for quality and equality in South African education through analysis and activism. The Bookery is a space that was secured by Equal Education in order to co-ordinate a massive ongoing book drive. Equal Education is aiming to collect 100 000 books to be redistributed to rural and township school libraries. The public is urged to support this initiative by donating books that are in good condition and that can be used by primary and high school learners. The Read-In is part of the Equal Education 1 School 1 Library 1 Librarian Campaign to provide all learners in South Africa with well-functioning school libraries. Currently, less than 8% of South African public schools have libraries. Most learners just do not have enough material to read, and do not have access to spaces that are conducive to learning. Equal Education is organising a march and concert to parliament on the 21st of March 2010 to urge the Department of Education to make serious plans to provide libraries to all our learners.

A Capella music has, for an exceptionally long period, suffered under the impression that it was a music genre lacking sex appeal, audience-accessibility and commercial viability, and perhaps a touch lame. Needless to say, perceptions haven't hindered D-seven, a bold new ensemble that has set the Cape Town music performance scene alight with tight sets, fitted jeans, slick moves and smooth music. And if first impressions are anything to go by, many a fan of high-quality live music will be grovelling to the musical gods in thanks for a long while to come. And grovel you just might. The men of D-seven certainly are a sight to match their sound, which is itself winning wide acclaim. The group is moving from strength to strength, having performed to packed houses on some of the countries premier stages, as well as a number of local television stations. With hits including 'Faith', 'Stand by me', Crazy little thing called love', 'Pata Pata' and medleys of music made famous by Michael Jackson, Beach Boys, Goldfish and Justin Timberlake amongst others, there is something for everyone! This is the first year that The Maths Club®will be hosting these classes in the Western Cape and it’s due to the fact that since the learning area - Mathematics has been made compulsory, the current assessment structure of the new Mathematics curricula has not been made enough accessible to the majority of learners especially in the townships. The concept of The Maths Club sessions involves tutoring learners from various schools by the principal tutor in a big venue; say a school hall, using audio – visual equipment to amplify the lesson. The duration of each session is three hours at the most and learners receive materials covering all the concepts to be discussed in the session.
